Medals awarded to Otto Maxwell von Berckefeldt over the years for his service to the British Empire: 1. Officer of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. The central white stripe denotes 'Military Division' as there is also a Civil Division. 2. The 1939/1945 Star. Awarded for service in the Second World War between 3rd September 1939 to 2nd September 1945. 3. The France and Germany Star. Awarded for service in France, Belgium, Holland or Germany between D Day 6th June 1944 to the German surrender 8th May 1945. 4. The Defence Medal. For service in non-operational areas that lasted for three or more years from 3rd September 1939 to 2nd September 1945. 5. The War Medal. Awarded to all full-time personnel of the Armed Forces wherever their service during the war was rendered from 3rd September 1939 to 2nd September 1945. 6. The Air Efficiency Award Medal G.VI.R. The award of this medal was published in Air Ministry Orders with effect from 8th March 1947. This is a Long Service medal awarded to all rank for 12 years service in the RAFVR and AAF.
